Polymer Electrolytes and Polymer Electrolyte Membranes (PEM), are a combination of porous polymer membranes with an electrolyte solution. This forms a type of gel making this a soft material. The PEMs can be formed to control the flow of certain ions, making them very useful in many power applications. Polymer electrolytes can be made by electrospinning, solution casting, phase inversion and plasticizer extraction.
Polymer Electrolytes are of great interest in current research around fuel cells and batteries.
